Biography
of the artist
Artist bright red blood (BRB) uses a strong classical piano background to bring a unique neoclassical sound to gothic pop. She began playing the piano at age 4 and composing classical music at 7. Although focused on the arts into early adulthood, she switched gears and established a career in science and medicine. BRB began as an emotional vent to cope with brewing tragedies. The COVID-19 pandemic began short months after her husband’s diagnosis with a brain tumor that would prove fatal in just 2 years. Everyone, everywhere, it seemed, was dying.
Each song tells a vivid story of horror and loss, whether through other-worldly encounters or severely depraved relationships. A one-person music project, she uses a digital piano and instrumentation software to create each instrument— harpsichords, strings, and pipe organs evoke an old world darkness. Lyrics are meticulously crafted and cutting, often startling, and offset by a rich orchestral and cinematic soundscape.
BRB is strongly influenced by all subgenres of classical music, 1970s progressive rock, and the gothic rock and darkwave of the 1980s. She also has drawn inspiration from genre-bending visionaries like Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel,Thom Yorke, and Frank Zappa, adhering to the mantra that all good music must be interesting.
A lover of all things horror and sci-fi, her newest project is making a series of horror shorts/ music videos. Videos for "loop" and "bright red blood" can found on her Vevo and artist channels on YouTube.

CURRENT PROJECTS
bright red blood's newest album, this is going to hurt, dropped May 15, 2025, and is available on streaming services and Bandcamp. It is pure gothic theater--a collection of interwoven stories bound by the common themes of death, rebirth, and immortality. The music merges BRB’s characteristic harpsichord and string section with largely electronic drum sounds to create a lush dark symphony--the soundtrack for a twisted horror cabaret. “crucified” is a darkwave anti-love song with a driving guitar riff and drum beat and is the most traditionally gothic pop song on the album. Lyrics describe vexed lovers cursed to remain tethered forever in the afterdeath. "float” features a haunting cello riff and, although largely driven by harpsichord and strings, has the heavy feel of doom metal. “loop” also manipulates the dance between the cello and harpsichord to create a new old-world vibe exploring life as a neverending loop of repeated mistakes. “the afterhours” is a catchy retro track that sounds a bit like a showtunes version of "Goo Goo Muck." It tells the story of a girl collected by the devil himself to dance forever at the eternal afterhours and will compel listeners to jump up and create their own dance. "the show" is another storytelling track that could only be described as musical theater. A malevolant compere draws in unwitting spectators to dazzle and then kill them. While BRB has shied away from prominent vocals on past albums, she is now ready to embrace her voice as instrument as showcased on "immortal coil" and "dark water." The former is the most commercial song on the album and the rare track in a predominantly major key. The uplifting tenor is meant to express the exasperation felt when cursed by immortality. The latter song is very dark and minimalist, with only piano, solo violin, and BRB's voice to evoke succumbing to the cold black water. The album truly transports the listener to a darker, more unsettling world of wonder and fear. A series of accompanying music videos released over the next year will bring the albums songs to visual life. The first, "loop," is already available.
bright red blood released her fifth album, circle of pain, October 2024. It demonstrates further refinement of her neoclassical gothic pop style and experimentation with electronic sounds. It is the most solidly strong album released to date. The vocals are sweet, yet haunting, with lyrics that indulge a deranged storytelling. All words are carefully selected and perfectly express each morbid thought. It starts with bright red blood, featuring an industrial style drum and bass overlain with the traditional sound of baroque harpsichord. It tells the story of an other-worldly creature who skins her victims and then wears them as a disguise. The associated music video is the first of a planned series of music videos that also serve as horror shorts. They are available on her YouTube channel.
forgetting, set to harpsichord and a driving beat, is told by the ghost of a woman strangled by her lover as she gradually forgets her life. The verses of sight are reminiscent of a Bach fugue with a purely orchestral interlude of harpsichord and strings in the middle section. waiting, intentions turn cruel, and inside feature a traditional string section merging with more electronic sounds. The album concludes with what's left, an honest and heartbreaking account of the singer's husband's death.
